When we last saw our heroine she was trying desperately not to scratch herself to death after getting her arm sleeved by the fantastic Hannah Aitchison in Pittsburgh. Less than 5 days before this adventure she had also travelled to Seattle to get another sleeve outlined by the incredibly talented Tina Bafaro.
Now she was at it again – heading back to Seattle to make progress on her sleeve wondering “Why oh why did I not Space. This. Shit. Out?!” If you have been following along for a bit you may know that I scheduled 2 sleeves in 2 different cities within 1 week of each other.
When I did this I asked the internet if this was a bad idea. The internet met me with cool silence which I took as a “thumbs up you go girl” kind of response. I will now state for the record that unless you are a Major Bad Ass getting both your arms inked in one week pretty much sucks .
Yes of course there are far more difficult physical challenges to endure – but this tattoo thing is voluntary so the suck factor is avoidable. I recommend…Avoid. That being said my right arm – the tiger illustration done by my daughter when she was 12 and now inked large and in charge by Hannah- is finally healed and Tina is well on her way with my other arm. Here are a few pics: A rainbow of possibilities…
Tina colored, shaded and highlighted every single hummingbird feather – it’s gleams in the light like a real hummingbird!
All this took about 10 hours over 2 days. Tina does an incredible amount of very fine detail work which gives her tattoos a lot of depth – I really love how this is turning out!
See I’m smiling (or maybe grimacing – hard to tell). And of course all this great ink is taking place in a great city – Seattle. Thank you Tina Bafaro for being located in such a kick-ass spot – it makes travelling for ink all the more enjoyable.
So I was able to talk my Smee/tattoo wingmaiden Jenny into coming along again. We checked out Pikes Market – home to the bronze pig, flying fish and a plethora of treats from flowers to food to delicious coffee and wine. Yum Yum Seattle.
Large indoor corridors crowded with every kind of food vendor – plus restaurants both plain and fancy overlooking the sound. Jenny also had what she swears are the best chicken wings ever just a few doors down from Tina’s shop. The Central Saloon also boasts a “tattoo wall” under their appropriately tatted sailor statue.
Jenny had wings here both days and she just called me this morning and the wings came up in conversation. Just saying. www.centralsaloon.com
But it wasn’t all wings and ink – oh no. Jenny and I also winged (see what I did there) back to our favorite Irish Pub- Fado’s (just a few blocks up from the shop) for my new favorite cocktail – Dicken’s Cider; Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey, Strongbow Cider and fresh lemon juice. With a sugared rim! Your. Welcome. After a couple of drinks and some lovely fried cheese-based food we headed out for a big
Yup. We’re crazy like that. If you have ever been tattooed then you know how faded you can feel. How lucky was I to have a travel partner who not only helped me with my plastic wrap and medical tape (oh so goopy) but was happy to call it a night at 8 o’clock so we could lay in bed and catch up on some Law & Order (the secretary did it – I had that shit nailed in the 1st 5 minutes – next stop…Law School Bah Dahm)
Then it was time to head home. I have to confess last week I experienced my first case of “Blogger Envy”. The wickedly funny @AussaLorens of www.hackerninjahookerspy.com (oh how I wish that was my blog name!) wrote a hysterical post about getting her house broken into.
One of the points that she made that was so amusing was her attempts to quietly photograph the police trying to do their job. I got it! Now that I have this blog ANY misstep or problem becomes “fodder”. So I was really hoping to get stopped by TSA and, I don’t know – strip searched or tasered or something. Well, not really – but at least a nice bag search would give me some blogging material.
Here is what was in my bag:
They were all out of “Smack O Ham”
My sons Lego sculpture – so that’s where it was! Been looking for that for weeks!
And this cool T-shirt for my husband by www.armtheanimals.com – they give money from their sales to support struggling animal shelters. Last trip I got a tank top with a kitten throwing a grenade – fucking love that shirt!
Plus a roll of plastic wrap, electrical tape and medical tape, some Valium and a Sandman Slim Book. Was I stopped? No. Searched? No. Hassled in any way? Well that guy in the uniform did tell me to throw away my apple water but he was polite about it and that did not seem blog-worthy. WTF TSA – don’t you know I have a post to write?! So my hats off to you Aussa – you have the upper hand…for now.
I’ll be heading back in June to get the sleeve finished. I thought I would cancel my summer apt. and reschedule for maybe November but Tina informed she was already fully booked – for the year. So yeah, if you want to get tattooed by Tina…plan ahead. www.bafaro.com
