Well I WAS planning on writing another post in my Witch Dr’s and Woe series before the holiday madness sets in but then this happened… some tool altered and cut my article and passed it off as her own *(as of today Tattoodo has taken down the post and the “writer” of the post has apologized to me and explained it was a misunderstanding – thanks for your support internets!)
I was surprised when I realized what she had done. Especially because she was making gooey comments about all the “love and support” she was receiving for her “first blog post”. I got terribly annoyed and wasted over an hour tracking the article down online and posting my original article in the comment sections and pointing out the plagiarism. Plus I had to spend like another hour figuring out how to spell “plagiarism” and then spell checking it approx. 45 times. because my brain was unable to remember how to spell…that word.
Am I being naïve? Probably. The internet is chocked full of this kind of bullshit. It’s SO easy to paste and cut and change a few words around; Voila! Instant Writing!! Perhaps I should be flattered? I don’t think so. If the thief had instead pasted a link to “the piece that inspired her” and given me proper credit THAT would have been flattering – not a sloppy copy job.
Who really gets hurt by this? No one really. Except. Except I have been blogging close to a year and I am building a small following and my traffic increases monthly. This is encouraging because I hope to one day monetize my blog and be up there with some of the better tattoo blogs like Needles and Sins and Tattooed Martha – eventually earning enough money from my blog to buy the occasional taco or box of fudgesicles – my dreams are small yet important.
So what am I going to do about it? I am going to put some links here for you to learn more about copyrighting YOUR work. I also will draw your attention to my nifty Creative Commons Licensing bug on my right hand sidebar – Boo Yah! It’s like a box of Trojans for your words man. But not really. But you should consider protecting your content.
And if you are seriously STILL planning on
plageriazing copying my stuff – Don’t. You have NO IDEA how much I love tacos and fudgesicles and I will find you..
So what about it fellow bloggers – have you been plagiarized yet? What did you do about it? Do you want to join my “Don’t Be an Asshole and Plagiarise My Shit” posse? We could even get T-Shirts!!
https://blog.kissmetrics.com/find-remove-stolen-content/ This is a great article that covers how to discover if you are being plagiarized – ooo it sounds so dirty when I say it like that
