With her lime green hair, funky outfit and stunning good looks Juliet opened her set with a perfect rendition of “All or Nothing” and showed her fans that she is a hell of a lot more than a pretty face. So many singers rely on autotune and other little tricks to make them sound amazing in the studio but when you get to see them live you are left scratching your head and wondering why they sound so different. Not so for Miss Simms. She has a powerful and pure voice that sounded just as good live as it does on her studio tracks.
Juliet was backed by members of her band Automatic Loveletter and seemed to be having a total blast onstage running around, belting out her songs and even leaning into the eager crowd to clasp hands with thrilled fans and let them see her up close.
Towards the end of her set she was joined by longtime boyfriend Andy Biersack of Black Veil Brides and together they treated fans to a rendition of “Not Broken Yet” from Juliet Simms new EP All or Nothing.
Watching Juliet onstage you could see that the title of her EP was more than just a name – she is giving it her all and it looks like 2015 is shaping up to be the year when her star finally rises to the level she deserves. This much talent, drive and dedication can’t be held back – the girl is On Fire!
She is the real deal in every way and has a tremendous talent that needs to be heard. Her sound crosses genres and wins fans from all age groups with power cord driven songs like “Mystified” to searing, heart wrenching numbers like “End of the World”. Make sure you check out her beautiful video for that one featuring her beautiful boyfriend Andy.
Juliet was kind enough to sit down and speak with me so my first question for Juliet was how she feels about being a part of TEI Workshops for Vans Warped Tour this year. Juliet will be offering workshops in select cities and talking one on one with fans about Girl Power and making it in the music industry.
Her passion for this topic is obvious and her lovely eyes lit up when she explained what she hoped to accomplish with her workshops. Essentially Juliet wants to help empower girls to believe in themselves and their dreams. She hopes to help them to be strong and fierce and know that they have the strength they need to get through the tough times and ultimately accomplish their hearts desires. Coming from a music veteran like Juliet who has been inside the industry for years and taken her share of hits she knows what she is talking about.
In addition to doing workshops Juliet is also thrilled to be back onstage with members of her band Automatic Loveletter and says it feels like coming home. All I can say is they are a tight unit onstage and held their audience captive throughout the set.
I hit Juliet with my mini Proust Questionnaire and like a good sport she answered every one of my silly questions – here is what she had to say;
Tattoo Tourist: What is your stupid human trick? (ie double jointed thumbs, identifying muscle cars from the 70’s etc.)
Juliet Simms: (Words don’t do it justice – turns out Juliet has a crazy double jointed thumb trick that was darn impressive.)
TT: What piece of advice would you give to your 15yr old self?
JS: “I would tell myself that it didn’t matter what people said about you…that you should follow your dreams..”
TT: What is the best gift you have ever received?
JS: Well…I got a really really special piece of jewelry that Andy gave to me…
(oooo – what do we think it is?)
TT: Who would you like to have for an imaginary friend?
JS: Oh that’s a hard one…David Bowie (that is a damn good answer)
TT: Who would you want to do a Freaky Friday switch-up with?
JS: My mom so she could she how annoying she is (I get it – moms ARE annoying – just ask MY daughter!)
TT: Do you have a secret tattoo?
JS: My tattoo under my boob that says “Romeo oh Romeo” with a rose is kind of hidden but… other than that not really – (we decided her tattoos were All Available for Viewing – and pretty damn cool as well).
TT: What is your next tattoo going to be?
JS: There is guy that works with Andy and BVB and he is a tattoo artist and wants to tattoo us both on tour so probably something on my forearm…(I asked her about healing a tattoo on tour and she said her body was “crazy” and healed piercings and tattoos really fast and she doesn’t even get sunburned – some girls get all the luck!)
TT: If you could have any superpower what would it be?
JS: I would have the power to grant myself any wish I want
( which basically means Juliet just upped her superpower to Omnipotent Power. Schooled by Juliet Simms – the girl knows how to take charge!)
Be sure to check out Juliet’s new EP All or Nothing and see for yourself what everyone is raving about. It’s so rare to see a beautiful young woman in the music industry determined to make it on the strength of her talent and integrity and not cave in to the pressure to be another trashy Barbie with a microphone.
Support your daughters by showing them a positive music industry/celebrity role model like Juliet Simms and enjoy some kick ass music while you do it!
