I know what your thinking. Your thinking, “Why the hell did Google send me here when all I wanted to see was pictures of Margot Robbie naked?!”
You may also be thinking about eating a delicious donut for breakfast…if so I salute you. And maybe…just maybe you might like to find out about some cool tattoo blogs that rarely mention Margot Robbie and donuts in the first paragraph. Well, you’re in luck! Here is a list of 5 Tattoo Blogs definitely worth reading!
The list is short and the blogs vary in content. I did not include blogs for popular tattoo designs, tattoo healing OR blogs that feature mainly T and A because let’s be honest – if you want T and A you’re not reading this blog anyway.
So dig in and enjoy some great content and tell em The Tattoo Tourist sent you…and that I need donuts. Like now.
5 Tattoo Blogs You Should Read
- Tattoo Now – This site is essentially a clearinghouse for many professional and very well known artists like Jeff Gogue, London Reese, and Liz Cook. The site also has many excellent articles geared to tattoo artists and collectors. It is a bit clunky and has a lot of ad placement BUT if you want excellent information about tattoos, top tattoo artists and how to be a better tattoo artist this site should be in your favorites list no question about it.
- Tattoo Artist Magazine – This site and the accompanying magazine (Hey, remember magazines?!) is a gold standard for informative, well researched, detailed articles about a large variety of excellent, professional artists. If you are of the nerdy “I like to know all the things about all the people” type (that’s me!) this blog and magazine is a must.
- Tattoo Education – This site is maintained by bio-mech master Guy Aitchison and is chock full of excellent information. It even has an Ask Guy feature where artists and collectors can get honest and thoughtful (and very thorough) answers to their questions. If I had a serious question about tattoos and/or tattooing this is where I would go for answers. Guy is an expert!
- Needles and Sins – This blog has been around for an impressive 10 years and counting. Author and site manager Marisa Kakoulas, a lawyer and self-proclaimed tattoo nerd, has found the time to consistently post thoughtful, scholarly articles about tattoos, tattoo culture, artists and trends for years. She is a regular at many notable tattoo conventions, knows all the cool old-school artists personally and sports some excellent dot work tattoos. The site has not been updated for a while but the archived articles are well worth a look.
Things and Ink – based in Britain this blog is also part of the gorgeous, artistic magazine of the same name. Sadly the magazine is unavailable is the USA but at least you can follow their thoughtful articles and gorgeous photography online. Things and Ink is a classy tattoo magazine that elevates the conversation way above the usual T and A found in a lot of ink based publications.
So there you have it – a short round-up of sites worth a look. Many former blogs have also moved over to Instagram (AKA “reading is too hard”) where you can scroll for days and never run out of great tattoos to look at. Another source for great tattoo information are the websites of tattoo artists or tattoo shops. Many of these sites have informative articles and featured artist sections as well. There are also sites that cater to specific info like removal www.thefinery.net , pain relief, and tattoo design. If you know of a good one that isn’t a spam monster link it in the comment section. And of course, The Tattoo Tourist will be here waiting for you when you want a little touch of random thrown in with your info.
