I had the opportunity to speak with the co-creators of V for Veganism – Kiirstin Marilyn and Karolina Tyszkowska – and learn about why they started this informative online platform and where they hope to take it in the future. Not a vegan or even a vegetarian? That’s cool – read what they have to say and watch their cool little video with 8 of Swords Tattoos that discusses vegan tattoos anyways – these women are dedicated, talented, and put a fun spin on serious topics – what’s not to love?
Tattoo Tourist: What prompted you to begin this project?
V for Veganism: We were both newly vegan, and they say the newbies are always the most compelled to action…also the most angry ha. We were horrified at the industry we had been supporting all these years, and we wanted to shout it from the rooftops and let other people know what we now knew. We both work in the entertainment industry in different capacities so we wanted to utilize our strengths to help bring the message of veganism to more people. Also being new to veganism, we thought, what better way to learn more about it than to highlight those at the forefront of the movement. We are learning just as our audience is learning.
TT: What has the response been so far?
VV: So far people have been really blown away by the quality of the videos and the content. We’ve had a good number of people approach us about wanting to be involved with the web series or us helping them with their own show ideas. It’s all been really positive. I’m just waiting for the trolls on YouTube to come out of the woodwork. Then we’ll know we’ve truly made it. 😉
TT: What do you hope to accomplish with your platform – where do you plan on taking it?
VV: Currently we are based in New York City, covering everything that goes on in the vegan community here in an attempt to show new vegans that they have an amazing community of like-minded people to fall back on when things get tough. The goal is to get a few vegan companies to sponsor our channel so that we can take this on the road and highlight vegans and/or vegan communities throughout the US. One of our main goals is to show people open to the transition or new in the transition that they are not alone. In New York it’s a bit easier to find that community and New Yorkers tend to be tough individuals anyway. But the eventual goal is show people throughout the country who are open to going vegan, that they are not alone, and they don’t have to feel marginalized in their decision. Season 3, we’re going international 😉
TT: Will you offer other content in addition to videos?
VV: We have a blog section on our website, VforVeganism.com, that will eventually be filled with guest bloggers writing about anything and everything vegan from nutritional facts to the best vegan shampoos and conditioners. We also have listed other websites as resources for those who want more information on a specific subject we covered.
TT: What is the one thing you want to tell skeptics, non-believers, and the under informed about what it means to be a vegan?
VV: We hope to show skeptics the positivity in veganism, and that it’s not all grass and buzz kill. We hope they will come to understand that veganism is not a diet, but a lifestyle and a justice movement. We hope to help them to be open to making changes in their own lives by showing them how much fun we have and how awesome it is to be compassionate and to care about others’ lives and the planet.
TT: What is your dream vegan item that wish was out there right now (food or otherwise)
VV: More Doc Martin vegan options! Right now they only have a few styles in either red or black, but it would be great if they would expand the vegan line to really cute designs and patterns like all their other leather shoes. Then we might consider spending $150 on a new pair of vegan boots! 🙂
Well said and thank you for your insight. Now check out this cool video talking about vegan tattoos, crazy shop cats, and cool tattoo artists.
